I am so excited to talk to you lippies about the new Kat Von D Shade light contour palette! This Palette was released for this Spring 2015 and is the first contour kit Kat Von D has ever come out with. I have never owned a contour palette before as I’ve actually just gotten into playing around with contouring and highlighting so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend $55 on a palette being a contour newbie and all. When I finally made up my mind about buying a palette it came down to two, the ever so loved Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit or this brand spanking new Shade Light one. Based on reviews and youtube videos raving about how much they loved the Kat Von D compared to the Anastasia one I decided to go with it! Not to mention you get more product with the Shade Light palette!
This palette comes with three highlight shades (0.08oz) Lucid, Lyric and Levitation. It also comes with three contour shades (0.16oz) Sombre, Shadowplay, and Subconscious.
These powders have a satin matte finish that is creamy smooth in texture. They are finely milled, very pigmented and blend beautifully. There is a bit of fall out when swirling your brush in the pan but nothing to extreme. The packaging is cardboard like but sturdy and it is equipped with a good sized mirror. What I love about this palette is that it comes complete with instructions on how to contour which is great for newbies like myself!
LUCID is describes as ‘pinkish nude’ its more like a very light beige to me I don’t get my of the pink tone when applied or swatched. This is my go to colour for highlighting.
LYRIC is described as ‘yellow beige’ this is comparable to Anastasia’s ‘Banana’ but it is less yellow in comparison and therefore I think would work better on more complexions. I use this shade to set my under eye concealer.
LEVITATION is described as ‘soft peach’ honestly being new to all of this I have no idea what I would use this for.. it seems to peach for me to be a highlight. It acts like more of a soft blush colour for me. I don’t find myself reaching for this shade to often.
SOMBRE is described as ‘true taupe’ this is the coolest toned contour shade in this palette. I tend to begin contouring with this shade then move into the other two warmer shades.
SHADOWPLAY is described as ‘ soft brown’ the name pretty much says is all. out of the three contour shades this ones my favourite. I feel that its the most versatile.
SUBCONSCIOUS is described as ‘ deep brown’ and it is exactly that. I use this shade last if I’m still wanting more definition or during a night out on the town this would be my go to contour shade.
This palette is worth every penny!! The colours are neutral and I believe can be worn by every complexion. The powders are workable and easy to blend. They’re creamy smooth and satin matte finish look absolutely gorgeous when applied. If you haven’t got this palette I say you NEED this in your life. It definitely has became a staple in my makeup bag.
Until next time lippies xo – Beth
